Prayer

Awake in the Dawn includes 365 individual devotionals, one for each day of the year, that each follows one of the seven main themes of the Lord’s Prayer. Let’s start by examining the Lord’s Prayer together.

Jesus instructs us to pray this way in Matthew 6:9–13:

“Our Father in heaven,
    may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
    as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need,
and forgive us our sins,
    as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation,
    but rescue us from the evil one.”

Looking closely, we can see there are six main themes found in the above prayer, and when we incorporate what’s commonly referred to as the “Lord’s Prayer doxology,” we find seven:
